Dry respirators are mainly used to protect the internal lubricating oil, hydraulic oil, etc. of equipment from contamination and moisture invasion, and are commonly found in equipment such as gearboxes, transformers, hydraulic oil tanks, etc.

Dry Breather:

A dry breather is a device that combines pollutant filtration and absorption of free water in the air. It is mainly used to protect the lubricating oil and hydraulic oil inside equipment from contamination and moisture intrusion. The following is a detailed introduction to it:

 

1.Working Principle:

Dry breathers are usually equipped with built-in desiccants, such as silica gel and molecular sieves. When air enters the equipment through the breather, the filter layer first removes solid pollutants from the air, and then the desiccant absorbs moisture in the air, ensuring that the air entering the equipment remains dry.

Take a transformer as an example:

- When the oil temperature of the transformer rises, the oil expands, the air space on the oil conservator becomes smaller, and the pressure increases. At this time, air is discharged through the breather;

- When the oil temperature drops, the oil contracts, creating a negative pressure inside the oil conservator, and external air is sucked in. During this process, the moisture in the air is absorbed by the desiccant in the breather.

 

2. Performance Characteristics:

Efficient Moisture Absorption: For example, the Wisepac® dry breather is equipped with indicator silica gel and color-changing molecular sieves, which have strong moisture absorption capacity. Among them, molecular sieves perform excellently in low-humidity environments.

High Filtration Precision: Take the SAW 115 series dry breathers from MP FILTRI as an example. Their polyester filter elements can remove pollutants in the incoming air to a level of 3 microns, effectively preventing solid pollutants from entering the equipment.

Easy Monitoring: The desiccant in some dry breathers changes color when it is fully saturated with water. For instance, the absorbent in Parker's 934332 dry breather changes color from blue to pink when it is fully saturated with water, making it easy for users to identify whether replacement is needed.

Reasonable Structural Design: Take the DC series dry breathers from Des-Case as an example. They adopt an integrated nylon standpipe, which has excellent anti-vibration properties, can eliminate shocks inside the device, and also distribute air flow evenly. In addition, their external ribs enhance durability and grip when installing or replacing the breather.

 

3. Application Fields:

Dry breathers are widely used in equipment such as gearboxes, hydraulic oil tanks, oil storage tanks, and transformers, covering multiple industries including aviation, equipment manufacturing, off-highway vehicles, food processing, petrochemical engineering, pharmaceuticals, power generation, metal manufacturing, and mining.
